Recently appointed Qatar coach Sebastiao Lazaroni saw his new charges lose 1-0 to 2007 AFC Asian Cup champions Iraq on Friday in the international friendly held at the Jassim bin Hamad stadium.

Salam Shakar Ali bagged the winner for Iraq to hand Brazilian Lazaroni a debut defeat.

Lazaroni, who replaced Milovan Rajevac in the wake of Qatar less than impressive World Cup qualifying defeat of Vietnam, must now pick his troops up ahead of their crucial World Cup third round qualifying tie with Bahrain on September 2.

Qatar also have Iran and Indonesia for company in Group E.
